Józef Piłsudski

Born: December 5, 1867 in Zułowo (now Zalavas) in Lithuania.
Died: May 12, 1935 in Warszawa.

Józef Klemens Piłsudski was a Polish statesman who is considered to be the father of the in 1918 re-established Polish Republic, 123 years after the 1795 Partitions of Poland by Austria, Prussia and Russia.
He served as the Chief of State (1918–22) and was First Marshal of Poland (from 1920). He was the de facto leader (1926–35) of the Second Polish Republic as the Minister of Military Affairs. From World War I on he was an important personality in Polish politics and was a distinguished figure on the international scene.
